Bernat Klein
Influence and Inspiration
The Bernat Klein Foundation, in partnership with Borders Textiles Towerhouse and The Winchester Gallery, was delighted to present this first UK-wide exhibition about Bernat Klein (1922 – 2014), designer, artist and colourist. Â
Themes explored throughout the exhibition illustrated Klein’s influence across design, architecture, and visual arts, as well as his significant creative and cultural contribution to Scotland. Original work was showcased alongside the work of contemporary practitioners who have been inspired by Klein’s legacy.Â
Colour connects every aspect of Klein’s lifelong creative practice. From his groundbreaking couture mohair tweeds and printed textiles in the 1960s to his ongoing work as an artist and colourist, Klein’s work consistently expresses the importance of place in his exploration of the visual language of colour and texture. Â
This exhibition told the story of Klein’s success and explores the new ways in which he pursued and developed his ideas — innovations which still hold relevance today.
