Design for Future

17 to 20 January 2024

The Design for Future Exhibition is based on six student live projects at Global Smart Lab and two research projects at the Design Department at Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton.

  • App-based user interface design for a wearable healthcare product
  • Smart Retail Design for Healthy Ageing
  • ParentMood App: Designing for predicting postnatal depression
  • 878 AD: Evaluation of the new Anglo-Saxon Visitor Attraction in Winchester
  • Smart Design for Obesity
  • Milestones Christmas: Museum experience design
  • Following the fish: Biennale Architettura di Venezia
  • Museum Experience Design in a Rapidly Transforming Digital World

In these projects, our students and staff worked with expertise from a variety of disciplines, including design, engineering, computer sciences, psychology, health sciences, cultural heritage and museum studies, exploring how smart technologies can be applied to improve people’s quality of life and make our society more inclusive.

The Exhibition presented key findings together with several newly designed product and service concepts that could improve people’s quality of life from diverse perspectives. Visitors were invited to reflect on how some of these new designs seek to change the future world through better design, and experience these through immersive VR games.
